No one will argue that the Golden Globe Awards, held at the Beverly Hills Hilton on a chilly LA afternoon, was a grand spectacle. It was dramatic in many ways, wins, speeches, awkward moments, but 'the fashion' (thank you Kelly Osbourne) was fairly tame.
There was a gaggle of the same red dress, and variants of the sweetheart neckline and mermaid silhouettes to beat the band.
One gal who stood out from the crowd (much to my chagrin) was Anne Hathaway - winner of Best Supporting Actress for Les Mis - in an archive Chanel Couture Spring 2009 look.
This gently crunchy looking two-piece rose above the sartorial choices around her. So simple. So elegant. She is the best attention seeker of them all.
She was right to keep the jewelry to a minimum but I wish she had Tilda-ified the hair for the occasion.
I'll be honest, Chuckles McHathaway bugs the sh*t out of me, but she knocked it out of the park with this look. She managed to wear white and not look bridal, which is tough to pull off.
As irritating as her win and not-heart-felt speech with crocodile tears were...
...the moment of the evening for me was Chuckles's face when her co-star Sasha Baron Cohen reminded everyone of her 'vag slip' at the New York premiere. Holding a Golden Globe for acting, she sure didn't reach into her tool box for a reaction. An attempt at a wide toothy grin was LOADED with cringe and annoyance as she sat there gripping the award.
Now she has a real award to practice her Oscar acceptance speech 24/7.
